Living-in-Community Guests

We offer much more than workshops. The Centre is a community-based holistic education centre offering the opportunity to experience some taste of a world built on trust, cooperation and deep sharing. Since participating in a workshop may not be what you want to do in any particular week, we also offer you the opportunity to join us as  a Living-in-Community Guest (LCG). Low prices make the Spiti ton Kentavron project an affordable alternative holiday for those who wish to experience this magnificent area as part of a holistic community without the rigours of attending a workshop.

Being an LCG

As LCGs are considered full community members, we ask you to join in the essential cooking, clean-up and garden rotas that keep the Centre functioning. Your help is very much appreciated in joining a cooking shift during the week, a couple of 35 min. after-dinner clean-up shifts, and a gardening shift—5 to 6 hours of community service in all. Actually it is the experience of working together joyfully in the kitchen, the gardens and in home-care that is one of the most powerful community-building tools we can offer.

We ask our community guests to attend Saturday morning community meetings, where new guests, workshop leaders and participants introduce themselves, and LCGs are always welcome to join any non-workshop group activities, such as Qigong, Yoga and Taiji which occur regularly as well as our daily morning sharing (talking stick) circle. Our Living-in-Community Guests themselves often offer their own skills and healing sessions on an ad hoc basic.
If your wish is for some quiet time to go within, you will find plenty of opportunity to be alone in nature, e.g. on a walk to the beach or to the village of Kissos. We also have a peaceful meditation area set aside on the property, a non-denominational sanctuary with the forest as a backdrop. Provided there are no staff, workshop or private sessions scheduled, you are free to use the sanctuary at any time for quiet contemplation.

The Centre tries to provide one daily transport to and from local beaches (Fridays excepted), which are about 15 mins away by car, or about half an hour by foot down the mountain on donkey paths. Beach transport is normally timed to coordinate with the ongoing workshop schedule. As LCGs are not tied to this schedule, those who are fairly fit often elect to walk to the beach (steep in places so hiking shoes or trainers are recommended) at times of their own choice and then return to the Centre later in the day on one of our pickup runs for workshops participants (typically 5:45 pm and 6:05 pm or later as arranged) or the local bus from Ag. Ioannis.
