Staff

Work is Love in Action

At this stage in its evolution, Spiti ton Kentavron (STK) summer school depends for its staffing exclusively on dedicated volunteers who come to Greece in the summer for a meaningful working holiday in a holistic community. Every summer, to staff the Centre, we look for individuals with community experience and a holistic perspective, who enjoy working with groups.

Staff coordinate the centre rhythms, focalise meals and clean-up, assist with transport to and from the beach, help with gardening, maintenance and shopping, and facilitate staff attunements. Some useful skills here are experience with group process, healing, building and vehicle maintenance, vegetarian cookery and gardening. The ability to enjoy working in a team where you can balance your own needs with the group’s needs is definitely an asset. Actually the staff volunteers here in STK are the longer-term faculty that complement the workshop and retreat leaders who offer structured week-long courses.

What are we staff teaching? “Holistic Education” or “Education for Sustainability” are the best terms for it and we impart it to our guests and workshop participants through working together, playing together and sharing together. We believe this is our unique way here, offering our guests the opportunity to apply the holistic tools learnt in their workshops to everyday activities in the kitchen, the garden and on the beach! To be able to teach, almost all our staffers start with a two-week staff orientation training (see below) for which we ask a small financial contribution to cover your food and accommodation during the training weeks.

Joining the Staff of Spiti Ton Kentavron

There are many routes to becoming a staff member here. Some of our staff are former workshop participants, living-in-community guests, or even leaders who have discovered us, grown to love the place and our vision and come back to support us as volunteers. If you have been to the centre before and would like to apply to be on the staff team, please get in touch.

Sometimes people come onto the staff after attending a work camp in May or October. The camps are a convivial, relaxed, fun way of getting to know the place and see how you fit with the energy here. They are also a great opportunity for gender role reversal as you can see from some of the photos on the work camp page. Others come out for a two-week orientation period, during which they contribute £65/€75 per week. This supports the cost of organic food, simple accommodation or tent, transport to the beach and an interesting set of experiences that are community led. We cannot guarantee a single room for staff, but can offer a tent if you need your own space.

If things work out well for you and for us during this orientation period, and there are staff vacancies, we can often invite you to stay on as full work-exchange staff member for a longer-term commitment.

Work Exchange

We offer food and accommodation (as available: bed in a shared room, tent or yurt) from as little as a couple of weeks to 5-6 months on a work-exchange basis. Staff members put in up to 30 hours of work per week, get a full day off each week and generally can count on a couple of hours on the beach or time to themselves daily. Time permitting, staff can attend certain workshop sessions. And there are loads of opportunities for skill sharing amongst ourselves.

We are an international group and part of our richness is the intermingling of people of all ages from many different countries, walks of life, spiritual paths, genders and backgrounds. If you think you might be interested in a summer staff position here at the summer school, please contact us with some personal details about yourself, your interests and experience, likes and dislikes, your strengths and weaknesses working in a team and when you would be free to come.

Price: €75/week (for the first two weeks); €60/week (for subsequent weeks)
